Music Heals Hosts Benefit Concert for Hop On A Cure, Welcomes Blackberry Smoke, John Driskell Hopkins

Event Fundraiser Supports Hop On A Cure’s Fight Against ALS

Music Heals, a 501(c)(3), is hosting its second annual benefit concert for Hop On A Cure, a foundation formed by John Driskell Hopkins (founding member of Zac Brown Band) and his wife Jen benefiting the fight against ALS. The outdoor concert and artist meet-and-greet will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 4-11 p.m. in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Music Heals, founded by Debbie Schultz and Stephanie Lowery, is on a mission to bring together people who have a love of music and a desire to make a difference in their communities. Through events like its upcoming concert, Music Heals strives to provide healing and support through the power of music.

“In an instant, a song takes me back to a moment that might otherwise have been forgotten,” said co-founder Debbie Schultz. “It’s the closest thing to time travel that exists. And in a world where it seems like everything’s changed — the power of music hasn’t. After all these years, it still brings people together who have nothing in common to do so much — like heal.”

“I wanted to join forces with Debbie to create Music Heals, because there was a time in my life when I was sick and I needed a village,” said co-founder Stephanie Lowery. “And when someone is down, it’s our duty to step in and support in whatever capacity we can. That’s why we created Music Heals.”

Featured music artists include Blackberry Smoke, John Driskell Hopkins Band, Yesterday’s Wine featuring Levi Lowrey & Wyatt Durrette, James Otto, Kristian Bush, Mutlu and Lilly Winwood. The concert will also feature a series of local food trucks and a full bar — provided in part by corporate sponsor Totem Solutions (Alpharetta, Georgia). Tickets are currently available for purchase by visiting musicheals.life.

Miami’s Vibrant and Very Relevant Young Talent Simón Will Release His Debut Song ‘LOSING SLEEP’ on May 3, 2023

Miami’s Vibrant and Very Relevant Young Talent Simón Will Release His Debut Song ‘LOSING SLEEP’ on May 3, 2023

“Losing Sleep” by the artist Simón will be released on all platforms, including iTunes and Spotify on May 3, 2023.

Simón, also known as Simon Villamizar, is a 17-year-old singer songwriter born in Miami, from Colombian parents. In his music, you can listen to a unique fusion of Anglo and Latin influences, catalyzed by the eclectic melting pot that is Miami’s multicultural environment.

The song was produced by Jona Camacho and Alfonso Ordoñez at Red Dot Recording in Miami, Florida. “Losing Sleep” was written by Simon on a ukulele when he was 15 years old, confirming that he has the gift of songwriting much like his prolific uncle — Jorge Villamizar from Bacilos. Camacho and Ordeñez, the producers at Red Dot Recording, both see in Simón a fresh take on R&B Indie with Latin roots (Sangre Latina). Ordeñez says, “Simon brings freshness to the music industry, his songs have an unmistakable personality with an Indie Pop style and very honest lyrics.”

This song is part of Simón’s debut EP titled “Simon,” which is expected to trailblaze a new genre mixing trap, urban, deep-pop and Latin fusion. The cover of the EP was designed by renowned artist Federico Uribe, a personal friend of Simon’s. The broken pencils on the cover are meant to represent the frustrations and challenges that are further brought to life when they are being written and reflected upon. The EP is scheduled to be released by early fall of 2023.

Multi-platinum selling iconic group GRAND FUNK RAILROAD announced today additional tour dates to their highly anticipated upcoming ‘The American Band Tour,’ in honor of the 50th anniversary of their 1973 “We’re An American Band” platinum-selling single and album. New dates include performances in New York, Ohio, Arizona, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Utah, Nevada, Indiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Alabama, Louisiana, California, South Dakota, New Jersey, Michigan, and Mississippi.

One of rock’s most definitive anthems, founding member Don Brewer (vocals and drums) was the soul writer and vocalist on “We’re An American Band,” which went all the way to #1 on the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ chart on Sept. 29, 1973.

“‘We’re An American Band’ came to me when we were flying from town-to-town on our ‘Phoenix Tour’ in 1972,” said Brewer of writing the song. “We were being sued by our former manager, Terry Knight, and he was trying to stop us from performing. The line, ‘We’re comin’ to your town, we’ll help you party it down,’ came to me first, and I wrote the song around that line, taking snippets of things going on during the tour at that time – like staying up all night with Freddy King playing poker, four young chiquitas in Omaha, sweet, sweet Connie in Little Rock, and, finally, the declaration, ‘We’re An American Band,’ because it sounds great and sings well.”

As part of this year’s itinerary, the legendary rock & roll powerhouse will be the “special guests” of Kid Rock for two hometown shows in Michigan at Little Caesars Arena on Friday, July 14, and Saturday, July 15. See GRAND FUNK RAILROAD’s full tour itinerary below.

ABOUT GRAND FUNK RAILROAD:

Known as “The American Band,” the high-energy five-piece group includes original founding members Don Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, “We’re an American Band”) and bassist Mel Schacher, “The God of Thunder.” Joining Don and Mel are true “All Stars.” Singer Max Carl is a rock veteran from 38 Special. Max penned and sang 38’s biggest hit “Second Chance” and was co-founder of California’s legendary Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. Don refers to Max as “the best blue-eyed soul singer on the planet.” Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick is best known for his 12 years with KISS and has credits with Michael Bolton, Meatloaf and Billy Squier. (KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were influenced early on by Grand Funk.) Keyboardist Tim Cashion has a master’s degree in music from the University of Miami. Affectionately called “Dr. Tim”, his credits include stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and English soul man Robert Palmer.
