Beckett Collectibles Set to Auction \”Tyler The Great Warrior\” Yu-Gi-Oh! card

Next week, Beckett Collectibles will partner with eBay and Collectable to auction the world’s rarest Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card—the ultra-rare, 1-of-1 “Tyler the Great Warrior” card.

At age 14, Tyler Gressle was stricken with a rare liver cancer and contacted the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a request: He wanted to personally create a card for Yu-Gi-Oh!, the Japanese trading card game he loved. An avid drawer and Yu-Gi-Oh! player, this idea united two of his passions, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation saw merit in the concept and contacted Yu-Gi-Oh! and its creators.

The Gressle family was eventually connected with the company behind Yu-Gi-Oh!. Gressle designed the first draft of the card himself, and the late, celebrated Kazuki Takahashi took Gressle’s designs and turned it into an official Yu-Gi-Oh! card. Takahashi chose the name— “Tyler the Great Warrior,” and the concept went straight from printing to slab, with no human hands handling the finished card during production.

“Over the past 20 years of my involvement in trading card games (TCG), I have had the opportunity to see an abundance of rare and obscure cards,” said Ian Mcdaries, Beckett’s lead TCG verifier. “From world-famous cards such as the Pikachu Illustrator to the prestigious BGS 10 Alpha Black Lotus, ‘Tyler the Great Warrior’ represents the pinnacle of my TCG career. As someone who has collected and played Yu-Gi-Oh! since its genesis back in 2002, having the opportunity to be a part of Tyler’s journey was a real privilege.”

Since its printing, the card acquired a lore of its own, with collectors debating its existence. Today, it is the rarest Yu-Gi-Oh! Card in history. Gressle approached Beckett Collectibles to grade the card, and after two decades, “Tyler the Great Warrior” will pass to its next owner. The auction can be viewed here.

DISCOVERY+ Star Leon Logothetis’ New Book ‘Go Be Brave’: Empowering Mental Health & Self Confidence

DISCOVERY+ Star Leon Logothetis’ New Book ‘Go Be Brave’: Empowering Mental Health & Self Confidence

24¾ Adventures to help the 50 Million Americans Experiencing Mental Health Issues

On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, Netflix and Discovery+ host Leon Logothetis will release his new bookGo Be Brave: 24¾ Adventures for a Fearless, Wise, and Truly Magnificent Life. The book encourages readers to fight for their voice and find ways to free themselves from unhealthy labels we tend to place on ourselves and society, including mental health stigmas, bullying, and trauma. His own journey of self-discovery inspires Logothetis’ book as he learned to be brave in order to overcome mental health obstacles in his own life.

His book comes at a crucial time, with over 50 million Americans experiencing a mental health illness. “The key is to be brave,” says Logothetis. “I want readers to know that it is OK not to be OK. It’s OK not always to be strong. Through my years traveling around the world with no money to my name, relying solely on the kindness of strangers, I found that true bravery is when you know you need to ask for help. When we speak our truth.”

Go Be Brave takes readers on 24¾ adventures, with bravery exercises to start becoming more confident and courageous, arming them with the bravery skills to make life what they intended it to be. Leon, who also struggled with years of bullying, trauma, along with mental health issues, serves as the tour guide throughout.

  • Why everyone should get mad: The five lessons of anger, towards understanding that anger is simply fear turned inside out.
  • Learn to say “yes” to adventure, and embrace saying “no” to things that don’t serve you.
  • How finding a bravery buddy is the interpersonal connection we need to experience deep change.
  • Start writing in a “truth diary” – where you get a safe place to finally speak your truth.

Logothetis has made a successful career out of inspiring others around the world through his popular NETFLIX show, The Kindness Diaries (now airing on Discovery+). He believes that bravery isn’t something you either have or don’t have — it’s something you can learn over time with practice and dedication. “It takes courage every day to step into the unknown and speak our truths,” says Logothetis. “But if we do it together, we can all become brave emotional warriors.”

Go Be Brave offers readers an opportunity for transformation by guiding them through steps towards embracing vulnerability and taking risks in order to live with joy rather than fear. By teaching readers how to be brave enough to confront their issues head-on, the book provides a path forward for those struggling with fear and doubt.

Logothetis hopes this book will serve as a beacon of hope for those who feel trapped — giving them back control over their lives by helping them see that they can conquer anything they set their minds on. With Go Be Brave, readers can begin the process of healing while finding strength within themselves along the way.

For the first time ever, Ocean Alliance and their collaborators have successfully deployed suction cup data-tags on blue and fin whales in the Gulf of California using a drone (UAV). This new deployment method is detailed in an April 2023 publication in the journal Royal Society Open Science and could have significant positive implications for whale science and conservation. Deployment of Biologging Tags on Free Swimming Large Whales Using Uncrewed Aerial Systems. R. Soc. open sci. April 19, 2023 https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsos.221376

This work shows that UAVs are capable of attaching biologging tags to free-swimming large whales. This method may hold advantages for studying vulnerable or hard-to-study species by potentially reducing stress from tagging activities. The work was carried out in collaboration with researchers from Ocean Alliance, Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, University of Michigan, and Syracuse University.

“The ability to use the aerial platform for tag deployment provides a huge step forward for the science. This method allows for tags to be attached to whales that might otherwise be difficult to approach with a boat and minimizes any disruption to their normal behaviors. This gives us an opportunity to better understand their behavior to aid in conservation efforts.” Dr. Susan Parks, whale acoustics expert and Biology Professor from Syracuse University

Biologging data tags are critical tools for marine mammal research. The tags are equipped with specialized sensors for recording depth, orientation, acceleration, temperature, acoustics, and even video.

In addition to reduced behavioral impact, “efficient tag deployment enables targeting of specific animals in a group or multi-animal tagging. This ability to target an individual animal and/or doubling or tripling sample size for an experiment will greatly enhance the science and our understanding of these animals.” Dr. Alex Shorter, Mechanical Engineering Professor University of Michigan.

Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary Research Ecologist Dr. David Wiley, who has used suction-cup tags to study the behavior of whales for almost 30 years, said, “A lot of time and funds have gone into improving tag design and capability, but this is the first real improvement in tag delivery!” Wiley also stated, although the use of UAVs for tag attachment is a major advancement, it, “Takes more than just the desire and a drone to make it happen. The synergy of combining our expertise and experience greatly contributed to our success.”
